About Sanctuary Communities

Frequently asked questions

A: No. Sanctuary Communities is a faith-based community, not a treatment program. While some residents pursue clinical services elsewhere (including at Sanctuary Clinics), our community is focused on Christian discipleship, fellowship, and communal living. We are a ministry, not a healthcare facility.
A: No. Sanctuary Communities is not a recovery residence. Residency is not limited to people with substance use challenges and is not contingent on participation in any recovery program. We welcome adults from many walks of life who desire to live in Christian community.

A: No. Residents may pursue work, education, ministry, or clinical services elsewhere. Many residents are here simply because they desire faith-based residential life. Treatment participation is never required.

A: Sanctuary Communities is part of the broader Sanctuary family. Residents who need clinical services have the option to pursue partial hospitalization (PHP) or outpatient treatment at Sanctuary Clinics while living in our community. However, we operate as separate entities with different purposes.

About Community Life

A: We are non-denominational and welcome Christians from all traditions: Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox, and others. Our focus is on the historic Christian faith centered on Jesus Christ. We celebrate unity in essentials and grace in secondary matters.

A: We welcome people who are seeking. However, residents must be willing to participate in Christian spiritual activities (devotions, prayer, worship, Bible study). If you're open to exploring faith in community with others, we're open to exploring with you.

A: Days begin with morning devotions and end with evening community activities. In between, residents pursue their individual callings: treatment, work, school, or ministry. Shared meals, house meetings, and worship are woven throughout the week. There's structure, but also freedom.

A: Our guidelines exist to protect the community and create an environment where everyone can thrive. They include expectations around participation, respect, substance use, curfews, and community contribution. We share full guidelines during the application process.

Practical Questions

A: Most residents stay for 30, 60, or 90 days. Extended stays of up to 12 months are possible. We work with each resident to determine the right timeline for their circumstances.

For Families

A: With your loved one's consent, we can provide regular updates. Our 24/7 staff presence and regular check-ins mean someone is always available to address concerns. We also encourage direct communication between residents and their families.

A: Residency at Sanctuary Communities is voluntary. We believe community works best when people choose to be here. That said, sometimes a conversation with our team helps. We're happy to talk with your loved one about what community life looks like and address their concerns.
